Drosophyllum lusitanicum - Return to Listing

Drosophyllum lusitanicum is a curious insectivorous plant native to south Portugal and south-west Spain. It is protected in Andalusia where the Genal Valley represents its eastern limit. It has bright yellow flowers to attract insects, linear leaves with sticky hairs (not traps) to catch them and, unusually for a carnivorous plant, it grows in bare dry sandy places. See it on Benamonarda holidays 'Nature Rambles—Serranía de Ronda', 'Genal Valley' and 'Natural Parks of the Serranía'.
